Tar and Chip is a product that has been used on driveways and roadways for over 70 years. It is also known as "Tar and Pea Shingle", "Tar and Gravel", "Tar and Stone" and "Surface Dress".
In the beginning bitumen was used to stick the aggregate in place; over the years this has now developed to using a modified binder, which is a hot tar-like substance that has less impact on the environment. Previously used as a seasonal product, the modified binders can now be applied all year round (with some exceptions due to the weather).
Tar and Chip can be used to unify two different types of surface in a cost-effective way, such as concrete and tarmac.
Tar and Chip is flexible, so in many cases there is no need to dig up the surface. It can even be laid over badly cracked concrete. And the product is highly durable, so it doesn't crack after installation.
As we use natural stone, our Tar and Chip surfaces will keep their colour.
